I was so excited for him that I actually went to the game (I haven't gone to any church games in the past). He did great and even scored the first 2 points of the game. He scared me at one point when his wrist on that arm was twisted and he went down in pain. I feared all his hard work had been in vain and that he'd jumped in too soon, but after a short break he recovered and went back into the game for some one-handed play (it was funny).
We had New Beginnings last Tuesday! Whitney was one of 6 girls who will be turning 12 and moving into Young Women's at church this year (I can't believe it! When we moved into this ward she was 3 and a new Sunbeam!)
I got to introduce her to everyone and tell all about her, plus at the end they did a slide show of pictures the moms had submitted of the girls. It was fun to see cute pictures of Whitney up on a big screen; she loved it and told me I should have given them more!
I commissioned Landon to make me morning mix that I can listen to on the way to work to help me get pumped up for the day. I need this! He did a good job, but I think I'm going to need several in my rotation...any volunteers?
Thursday night was Maturation night for all the 5th grade girls at Whitney's school! I remember this being highly traumatic for me back in the day, but we're worlds more open these days so this wasn't stressful or embarrassing at all. In fact, they didn't cover a lot of the "stuff" I thought they were going to cover, so it was even easier than I'd guessed it would be (mostly girls' cycles and body changes).
Afterward we went to a new bistro to check it out and get a treat. Whitney got a ginormous cookie ice cream sandwich and I got a ginormous sugar cookie. Doesn't she look older in this picture?! We're on the cusp of teenagerhood and she's not even 12 yet!
Last week was a rough week for me pedometer-wise. I'm not sure why my steps were so much fewer than normal, but I have got to get to the bottom of it. One afternoon I dropped Whitney off at dance and then walked 5-6 laps around the pond (my new favorite place). It is such a gorgeous place to walk, especially since the sun is setting at that time and with each lap the sky is totally different.
Since Randy had a seminar to go to early on Thursday and Friday I brought Whitney to work with me so she could hang out until I could drop her off at school close to 9:00. She loves coming to school with me because we have vending machines! (It's a good thing she doesn't get to come very often!). She was content to eat her treat and draw the whole time.
I made these baking powder biscuits on Sunday morning and was so pleased with how they turned out, they were the perfect balance of flaky and soft and full of buttery goodness.
I came home from work today to find this note from Randy on the kitchen counter...this is one of the reasons I keep him around!
**How is your miscellany?
Do you enjoy biscuits?
Have you gone walking lately?
Will you make me a mix cd?**

Whitney does look so grown up in these pictures.
Meatloaf and baked potatoes. Now that sounds good.
You've convinced me to go get a pedometer.
That was a lot of fun Jill miscellany.
-The photos of Whitney are so cute. She always seems so content.
-I'd love to hear what songs are on your "get pumped" c.d.
It's great that you make time for yourself to walk. Has the weather been nice there?
-I've been walking a lot lately and plan to walk a lot more once the weather warms up. "Warms up" means high teens at this point.
-Love biscuits!
If I knew how to make a mix I would make you one, Blake does all that for me. I know I need to learn.
I would have panicked when Landon went down. I'm feeling anxious now that Blake has been given the go to start some activities without his knee brace. Hopefully Landon will be good to go with his elbow.
My miscellany is boring.
Today was so warm, I wore a short sleeve shirt!
I never thought we would be in our ward this long either. some of the kids we had in nursery are passing sacrament and that just makes me feel old.
i love biscuits.
i haven't walked or exercised in a while and am feeling pretty lumpy.
i will try to make you a mix. we will see how it goes.
i think whitney is so cute and i love that she is always drawing something. ps. good job surviving maturation. we just had sex ed. i don't remember my mom coming to anything. weird.
I would have been so worried when Landon fell! Yikes.
So glad maturation was better than Whitney feared. She definitely looks like she's on the cusp in that photo. Wow.
Hey, now you have a wife!
Maturation night...hmm...I've never heard of that! Is this in place of talking about it during school? Sounds neat that the parents get to be there!
How nice to get notes like that from Randy.
It boggles my mind that Luci will be a teen in two years also.i think she looks younger than her age and I am fine with that!
Oh I love RAndy! I tell Brandon all the time that the only thing I would change about him is that I wish he could cook. He is even worse than I am in the kitchen. but oh how great it would be to have someone else in charge of meals!!!
Ok...Whitney looks 15! When did she grow up all of a sudden!? This is just crazy!
Whitney not only looks older- but beautiful in that photo!
I thought with my daughters that they did a GREAT job with maturation- & yes it was mostly about hygeine & cycles- girls seriously need that!!
HOoray for landon playing football & randy making dinner- wow!
We need a new word besides 'Maturation'. People make jokes about it, right? Not just me? Probably just me...
As soon as I opened your blog I felt a wave of peace and happiness. So happy.
I will make you a mixed CD....just send me a list of songs you want. I can have my daughter bring it to you.
Can't believe that Whitney is going into young women's this year. My Boo is as well. She say's she is 11-teen,already a teenager.
Have a great day.
Those biscuits look delish! Whit looks so old in that picture! I'd love to get a note like that from Dave, never gonna happen... He does a fair amount of cooking. I don't like to cook fish, and he makes really good tilipia, but he wouldn't let me know ahead of time so I wouldn't cook. That's pretty sweet...I love the miscellany!
I like Whitney's hair longer....
I think you should share your biscuit recipe...
