This afternoon Whitney was watching a documentary about the ocean (which I had gotten from Netflix for her because she's fascinated by sea creatures) and was trying to lure me onto the couch to watch it with her. I finally decided to sit down (which abruptly halted the cleaning momentum I had going) so she decided to bring me up to speed on the Shark scene she had just watched.
She said, "This fish was just swimming around and then all the sudden the sharks just went ballistic!"
What in the world?? She's 6!
(This picture has nothing to do with this post other than that it's of Whitney and is recent.)

I love it! I think it's so cool when children use words that adults aren't aware that they know, and use them correctly. It does make her seem like she's getting older, though -- when did that happen?
That's a good one. I love it when they pull words from our vocab that we didn't teach them. The other day Dane (he's 3) said 'Now, that's just freakin me out!'. He used it in context and without a smile on his face. I guess he was seriously freaked out.
Little kids crack me up when they use big words. Too funny.
Caroline's funny word is , Actually
"actually mom i do want chocolate milk" Actually mom Sally Jane bit me" Actually mom i need a new pink watch" these three sentence come out of her mouth daily!
My three year old's is "No problem!" Can you try to potty? "No problem!" Let's get in the car! "No problem!" Of course she then goes on to do whatever it is she wants and not what you'd just asked of her.
i am constantly amazed by jack's (5 and 11 month year-old) vocabulary. Last night he cracked me up while we were watching Idol. after on particularly bad singer, he said - in his best Simon Cowell - "I don't know what to say." I wonder if Simon realizes how often he says that on the show?
I thought for sure that the pic of Whitney's teeth would be connected to shark teeth or the like!
Actually and in particular were used a lot with my oldest.
My girls would pick up phrases, looks, words and I would say to my husband, "Where did that come from?" and then I would get the look from him and realize they are "mini me's." So many things I say come back to me which is so sweet when they are playing mommy and I hear my words in a kind/supporting way but not so sweet when they are playing and I hear "frustrated mommy" in their words. EEK!
I think ballistic must be used on some cartoon or show they watch. My kids use it too and started to young for it to be normal. It cracks me up everytime they say it and for some reason it is even more funny when they use it correctly. (Doesn't it seem like it should be funny out of context instead of in?)
You know I love the kids things say. She is so funny. I love that she always wants you to come do things with her. Mine are always looking for the escape from me@
She's hilarious... shark shows are awesome, too.
Ballistic is an excellent word- I love hearing kids use those big words in context too. Mya says things are delicious and scrumptious all the time. No clue where they came from.
That is too funny. Luke out of the blue told Jared he was being DISGUSTING the other day. What? I didn't even know he knew what that meant. Love it.
I love when I stop what I am doing to be with them and get a little gem like that.
Matthew is using big words like that all the time. When he opens a bag of fruit snacks he goes through and decides if they are tranlucent or opaque. And yesterday as we were coming home from a Dr. appointment for Jessica he says, "Mom what does perseveration mean?" So funny, we were talking about this at the Dr. because Jessica does it all the time. It is when something is repeated over and over like a motion or word or phrase. Jessica gets something in her head and you hear about it for the next 6 hours. For instance, "mommy I put the babies to bed. I put the baby to bed, I put the baby to bed. Poor tired baby." OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER.
Oh, how I love the ocean and those sea creatures! I love it when the kids use those words that just make you stop and think about it. So funny! Hunter has been coughing up some hilarious ones lately and he is three.
So funny! Kate told me this morning, after being sent to her bed for hitting Soren, that she had been foolish for making such a choice- I seriously wonder where they get stuff!
Good for you for sitting down with her! It's hard to do when you have momentum. The reward was having this cute memory of her. She'll love it someday.
Kids are so dang cute. Glad you could have a good laugh.
She is so cute and funny! I would love to spend more time around Whitney. I think I would get a total kick out of her.
