I went shopping for shoes last night and was wondering if I was brave enough to get measured for a bra as well. I had called Collette and was hoping she'd be available to go shopping with because I know she wants a new bra too, but I got her machine (@#$%) and then I remembered she has presidency meetings on Thursday nights. I went to Dillards and found some good (expensive, ouch) shoes so I had better have happy feet in Paris! I did a drive by through the intimate apparel department, but saw the two cute, young employees and left. I went to a couple other stores in the mall and then sucked it up and went back to get measured.

I confessed my anxiety to one of the cute, young employees and she told me not to worry about it. The actual measuring part was super fast, the weird part was having her stay in the dressing room as I tried on each bra! That's a first! No wonder it's called
intimate apparel, I've NEVER been so intimate with a sales person before.

I did get over my anxiety somewhat though I felt very strange standing in the dressing room while she went to get me new bras to try on. Each time she'd come back in and watch me try them on and then tell me whether they looked good or not! Seriously?! Fortunately she didn't come off as scrutinizing me. I told myself it was like going to the doctor (a necessary evil) and that she was a professional just doing her job.

This is me after she left the dressing room. I was disheveled and sweaty, but I did it! This is a major feat for me so thanks for walking me through it. I bought two new bras, so that ought to hold me (no pun intended) for awhile. Paris here I come!
One more thing--I listened to my iPod while I shopped (not during the trying on part of course) and loved it. I'm listening to The Devil in White City (our book club book) and it's so great getting it "read" while I'm driving and shopping, but also it's cool because it's fun to has someone telling me a story while I'm doing other things. I'm loving it. I found
this great site for downloading audiobooks.
Also, a word about my art post yesterday. I'm not anti-museum. I was merely trying to express my feelings about the struggle I have with looking at art, especially when there's so much of it. It's hard to take it all in and I don't like walking past some paintings in order to get to the famous ones. You guys offered a ton of good advice though and I want you to know I'm not stressing about it and that I will enjoy every minute of it.
**Have you had an intimate apparel
experience like mine?
Do you listen to books on tape?**

Way to go! New shoes and new bras, you are set! I need to go shopping for both. I had no idea the salesperson comes in the room with you. Aah!
I'm so excited for you. My mind cannot even comprehend what you are about to embark on.
I loved that you had your camera and took photos! Although the girl standing in the room would be really ODD! I mean, come on, can't she leave the room while you slip on another doosey and then have you open the door? Do they really have to check? I'm certain that you are happy that you did it and it is behind you now. The countdown begins!
aaagh! The girl watches you try them on? I can see checking in on fit after everything is in place, but being in there with you is a little freaky to me. This has not encouraged me to go do this! But, I am glad you had good results, and your pictures were cute.
Ok, you are inspiring me to go bra shopping. I really need to have a fitting, but I'm uncomfortable with the whole thing.
I love the idea of listening to your ipod while shopping. We love audiobooks. In the summer I use them to keep my kids entertained when it is too hot to be outside.
Woohoo! New bras and new shoes. Now it doesn't matter what you wear, you'll be comfortable right?
I clicked on your audiobook link (thank you by the way I have never listened to to a book this way) and I noticed a free interview remembering Kurt Vonnegut. What?!?! My favorite author died and nobody told me? And just last week of all things. I feel a post coming on about that for me:).
Since I missed your post yesterday, here's my 2 cents: expect to be disappointed by the Monalisa (small, behind glass) if you go to the Louvre, but also in awe that so much significant art is held under one roof. The sculputures held my attention more, but some of the paintings really do strick you. Mostly I was so saddened that we could only spend 2 hours in the museum (we were on a strict schedule) and I was literally running down the halls trying to catch a glimpse of everything. I wanted to stay all day. I loved the Louvre and if you are in Paris you HAVE to go (especially since it's spring you won't be wearing a coat). You will regret it if you don't go, even if it's only for 2 hours.
Welcome to the club, Jill! I had a proper fitting in Marks & Spencers and the woman was like a bossy old aunt, pulling at my straps and hoiking all my bits about. She didn't care, so I quickly didn't either!
We flew to New York less than a month after 9/11, so security was sooo tight. At JFK, a female security officer felt my bra all around with her hands. Really pinching it and running her fingers all along the underwiring. !!!
Audio-wise, I'm trying to listen to 3 CDs of Count Arthur Strong at the moment and NOBODY will let me get a straight run at a single disc! It's driving me mad. (It's a comedy show on Radio 4)
Those shots are so great Jill. I am lovin' the expressions while you talk. So fun! I actually haven't ever had the woman come in with me (I guess I feel weird about the garmet thing) and San Antonio people may think that is a bit odd.
Awesome that you found some new shoes. No picture? I wish I was going to Paris how fun.
I should have linked you up with that website, my husbands coworker told him about it about 3 months ago. He is enjoys listening to it. I would prefer reading I guess. But on second thought I probably could get through more books that way.
ok, so what does a good bra cost these days. as a $12.00 bra target buyer.
love this post and the photos are great.
I am so laughing right now! What is it with everyone being so hilarious lately!? I am glad you braved it and got fitted, that does sound WAY TOO intimate for me, but then again I just had a bikini wax so who am I to talk?! I told myself the same thing...this is her job...it is ok...
So you bought two bras, but you didn't say whether it was worth it or not! Is a well fitted bra better? and like Kristi Brooke said, is it worth the money?
missy missy you are funny...i am with amanda i had a fitting in marks and spencers and i don't think anyone does it better....glad to hear two young chics did the trick...you lucky dog...i am amazed at how spontaneous you have become with the camera and all...its fabulous to see you getting ready missy.
lv. you.
still not connected sending you this mail via alex's office....probably by sunday....
Congratulations on the new bra! You are so much braver than I am. I need to do the same, and I just can't bear to get it done! I'm totally envious. On to Paris!
First of all I love listening to my ipod while shopping. It has completely changed they way I grocery shop. i love it now. I haven't thought about a book, I think that would work. thanks for the tip.
Secondly, love the photos.
Thrid, I am laughing out loud at your story. I can't imagine you were ok were her staying in and to be completely honest I have never had someone do that. They have come in after to give me there opinion. Too funny. I'm glad you got something and are ready to Paris.
Reading about your experience is not helping me to want to go in for a fitting. But I'm glad you found something good? Did it make a big difference in comfort, etc? Can't wait to see your new shoes.
I'm excited about the audio book site. Maybe I should download that book too, since I'm not loving the reading of it. Getting the "reading" done while shopping, cleaning, etc. could be just the ticket.
What? She stayed in the room? That seems really weird for me. I haven´t done a fitting before and I´m not sure I can handle someone being in the room with me while I try on bras! Anyway, I`m glad you found a couple that will work for you.
I forgot to ask....I want to know if you were way off in the bras you were buying?? Were you wearing the wrong size, or do the new ones just fit better because they are "better quality?". I am buying my bras at Costco lately...in the three pack and they don't carry the size I think I am, so I just buy whatever is closest (ya, I need some help), so I am REALLY curious...is it worth it???
Oh, Jill! You crack me up! The pictures of you in the dressing room are hilarious! I must say I am proud of you ... I don't ask for help when shopping for bras, not ever. I barely need one and it's just a bit too embarrassing for me (real mature, real mature), but I applaud your efforts to get a good fit! Yes, think of it as a professional doing her job. Maybe I should try that. Then again, maybe not!
New shoes, too! You are set for Paris!
Oh what funny pictures Jill! You've given me courage, I've said I was going to do this for years and if you can do it then so shall I.
