My new wake-up time is messing with my head for several reasons.
- It's freakin early.
- It's dark outside.
- Because it's early and dark outside I tend to think I have a lot of time to get ready.
- I have 1.5 hours to get ready, so I tend to mozy, I really don't like to rush.
- The time goes ridiculously fast so I start to panic when I'm down to 45 minutes left to get ready.
- It takes me awhile to cool down and when everyone is asleep I can't go to my usual cool down place (my bed).
- Our goal is to be ready to read scriptures together at 7:00 so I can leave at 7:15...we've only been successful once so far, but we're figuring it out.
- Is it wrong that I feel like I should get paid for these hours?
- I have go to bed around 9:30 so I can read myself to sleep, otherwise it ends up being past 11:00 and then I don't do so well.
- I think I'm a high maintenance sleeper.
**Thoughts??**
Comment Window Tidbit: Whitney is joining elementary orchestra which means I have to pick her up from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, then run home for 15 minutes and then go back to the junior high!! Aargh!

I am trying to get myself onto this very same schedule. 5:30 wake up is taking a toll, especially since I have a hard time falling asleep. I will try reading to myself tonight.
I am all over the place with the back to school routine or rather lack of. I have been getting up at 5:30am to get going. But still find my self rushing around without make up when it is time to drive my daughter to the High School. I think the part that is getting me the most, is after school/work. Where I make the transition from work mode to mom mode.
I am a total high maintenance sleeper. It, with my headaches is the bane of my existence. I am impressed at your family's goal of scripture study in the morning. Just trying is what counts, its the intention sometimes, rather than the outcome, if you ask me. Do you like the new job?
Family scripture study is such a delicate balance . . . it's like you just find something that works and then up goes the apple cart and you have to fill it up all over again.
You could always start a ponytail or wig trend and cut down on some of the overheating. What? You don't like that idea?
Whoever thought you would have to be as careful about your bedtime as you have to be about your kids? Life's a funny cycle, isn't it?
The carpool struggle each year for school drives me crazy! Good luck with your new taxi stop with orchestra. The things we do for our littes!
My alarm went off shockingly at 6 am this morning. This is always a huge adjustment for me...even though just sleeping that extra hour til 7 in the summer was huge for me. It's crazy to think that I have one getting up at 6 and the last to leave the house by 9. Three hours from start to finish is nutso.
Reading to sleep is the best!
We are so different. 1.5 hours to get ready???!! I would shower the night before, blow my hair out and then get up 15 minutes before it was time to go. I love my sleep..morning sleep that is.
#8 totally cracked me up.
I detest getting up when it is dark outside. It's the one thing I dread about fall, those shorter daylight hours.
More and more I'm realizing what a blessing it is to be able to fall asleep easily. (although I've been tired enough for bed around 9 lately!)
What instrument will Whitney be playing?
I totally think I should get paid for those morning hours and I don't currently work out side our home. My 8th grader gets picked up at 7:10, so we need to read scriptures/family prayer at 6:45. Chikes!
So far so good, but I need to work on the getting to bed early part. I read, too, but it's still late before I end up getting to bed. I don't sleep well anyway.
Oh I know I'm a high maintenance sleeper. I need at least 8 hours or I'm a bear to be around. When I had to get up for early morning seminary, I was always in bed by 9. It was the only way to get up at 5.
I enjoy summer but I am so sick of getting so hot when I get ready. I take forever to get ready in the mornings because I am always having to cool down in between things. I keep a fan on my counter top, running the whole time but it's not helping. It needs to cool down so that I can be ready for the day in a reasonable time!
IT WILL GET BETTER!
I think it just takes some of time for your body to adjust... then it will just be second nature.
In the mean time- I know it stinks.
You have my sympathies too. I hate early morninings & I am a high maintenance sleeper.
it does get better~ right?
I was in the elementary orchestra :)
I often tell my boss he should pay me for my commute (he doesn't even laugh anymore)so I totally get that you feel gyped you don't get paid for your morning prep time!
I so feel your pain on this. Only in my experience my body never adjusts and I feel the pain of 5:00 am every single day when the alarm goes off. It is so so so hard to force oneself to bed early but it is the only solution. And that is how getting up early steals your nightlife.
Darling girl. You have to get a prescription sleeping pill. There are a few out there that are not expensive and knock you right out. Then you wake up refreshed because they are time-released.
I am a high maintenance sleeper, too. If I don't take a sleeping pill, I end up going to bed about 4am and getting up at 6:30am.
That might have something to do with me being on the edge of a total mental breakdown.
Also, i drink a lot of Diet Coke.
xo
Sounds like you are getting good sleep and that is the most important part right? Too bad we are not aware of those hours!
Jill, have you ever tried not washing your hair every day? I started doing this, and it has made my life so much easier! I wear a shower cap, and then use that dry shampoo spray (I bought a bottle at beauty supply place months ago for $10 and it is still not empty). I also found some for like $2 at Target by suave I think. ANyway, I just spray that on the roots and rub it in, and any "greasiness" or wetness disapears. This might save you time, and save you from getting overheated.
I agree with the commenter who said your body will adjust. I think routine is key, the SAME to bed every single night, and the same wake up time each morning and your body will adjust. Sleep is SO important to me, I wish I could get by on less, but my body needs what it needs.
