Finally!
I love it when the Conference Issue of the Ensign arrives! Even though I've been listening to the talks for weeks now, I especially love it when the printed talks arrive at my door, and I really love it that we have the subscription that gives two copies so that I don't have to share with Randy.

Secret Pals
At work we've been doing "secret pals" for several months (we're on our 3rd rotation of people) and this sort of thing is right up my alley (what with my fondness for treats and gifts).
I haven't documented most of the gifts I've received but took photos of a few of them because of the funny poems that came with them.
I didn't put any poems on the stuff I gave my people, but did use cute, white tags with Randy's handwriting (so as to be unrecognizable).
Last Friday I got the Twix from my 2nd rotation pal and then these M&Ms from my 3rd rotation pal...what a delightful overlap! Not all the participants have been very good, but luckily I have faired well. I love this sort of thing!

Shmidlaps
Last week the 5th graders at Whitney's school presented a wax museum full of famous people. Whitney was Wilma Rudolph, so she didn't have much of stretch in the costume-department.
Each of the kids made a button for us to push in order to bring them to life (this was probably Whitney's favorite part of the project).
Randy ended up helping her a lot with this last-minute poster. I kept telling her how lucky she was that he was willing to help her, because I was pretty mad that she'd left so much of the work to the last minute when she'd had the entire week of Spring Break to get it done!! Serenity now!
Last Wednesday and Thursday evenings were pretty big for Landon because he tried out for the Freshman Football Team for next year!! He has only ever played flag-football, so this is a huge jump for him (and our family really). I was so nervous for him. When we got in the car to go to try outs I said, "Should we say a prayer?" and he said, "yes." So I said a little prayer which helped calm us both down.
2 hours later he came to the car and gave 2 thumbs up! We found out today that he is on the B team, so even though that's not the main team for the school it is a great opportunity to play football with lots of kids from school. Woohoo!
Another thing about this boy is how responsible he is. He had a scout campout on Friday afternoon at 4:00, and this is how I found him when Whitney and I got home at 3:45. He was all packed, dressed and ready to go!

Bit of a Rewind
Way back on March 24th (opening weekend) Landon and I met Michelle and Lucas at the movie theater to see The Hunger Games. We had seats top row center and were armed with large bags of popcorn, large drinks (sadly this resulted in some major discomfort for Landon and I about 3/4 through the movie) and a smuggled in baggie of M&Ms, it was great!
We all liked the movie and thought they did a good job adapting it from the book. I thought it could have been a little longer so that some of the relationships could have been more developed, but other than that I had no complaints.

Creative Friday--Spring Break Edition
Panini by Michelle
Sinfully awesome Salted Caramel Butter Bars (the name really says it all).
I wrote some cardsand Michelle gave me some of the green Divine Twine she recently bought.
Since Whitney didn't come with us (she went swimming with a friend) she sent a note and a toy for Eva (to help cushion the blow of not being there to play with her).
It went over pretty well.
The boys played Killer Bunnies down in the man cave.
Eva joined us at the table and made a slew of bookmarks, two for each person.
She made one for me that says "Jill reads a lot". I love it!
The table of happiness.
I brought my laptop and indexed 40 names from the 1940 Census. Cool.

12 on the 12th--April Edition
{Click to Enlarge}
- The best part of Spring Break is sleeping in and then reading in bed...delicious!
- Whitney's reaction when she found out I was serious about her cleaning out her closet.
- Dropping Landon off at a friend's house (he was gone all day).
- I got drinks for Whitney and I to help us both deal with the cleaning situation.
- I got ready around 10:40am and felt like a slacker.
- I cleaned out the fridge.
- I had to rewash all these spoons because our stupid dishwasher is just a bleachy rinse cycle.
- Whitney actually finished cleaning her room and was rewarded with a trip to the movies (check out the typo on the ticket).
- After the movie we spied Robyn's car (Randy did her logo) ahead of us.
- After rain all morning the sun decided to come out so I took some pictures of our tulips.
- Our cute next door neighbors surprised us by coming over to pull our weeds! The boys were so excited to help us and when I asked them why the 5 year old said, "Just to be nice."
- We had book club at Michelle's house.

Spring Breakalicious--Day 3
We slept much better our 2nd night at the hotel and took our time getting ready until it was time to check out and say goodbye to our hotel.
We had looked up restaurant possibilities for breakfast and decided to check out The Park restaurant. It was Wednesday morning and super busy so that seemed like a good sign. We were all thoroughly pleased with our food and just kept raving about this place and how we'll gave to go back there again.
This is our happy, post-breakfast self-portrait with the restaurant behind us.
Landon ate himself silly and experienced some happy regret.
We decided to walk across the street to check out Liberty Park and discovered Tracy Aviary is right there as well. We had never been there before, so we decided to give it a whirl.
The grounds were lovely and the weather was warm and breezy so it was a good place to wander while trying to recover from breakfast.
Whitney fell in love with this amusing Keel-Billed Toucan and has decided she will have one as a pet when she is older!
After walking around for awhile we found a delightfully shady bench to rest upon. It was here that I informed my family I that when I die I would like a bench to donated in my name someplace wonderful and shady since I am an avid, shady-bench appreciator.
Whitney got tired of sitting on the shady bench (silly girl) and went over to talk to an owl who was trying to get some sleep (they're nocturnal you know). After standing there talking to it and suggesting it do some tricks, the owl opened its eyes looked at her and turned its body around! She was officially dissed by an owl!!
This is just funny right?
After the aviary we walked around Liberty Park for a bit and enjoyed the gorgeous day. It was an excellent ending to our spring break activities.

Spring Breakalicious--Day 2
We had heard good things about the Coffee Shop at the hotel we were staying at (Little America) so we went there for breakfast. We should have known the prices would be outrageous, yet they still took us by surprise.
Landon suggested we run, but we stuck it out and were very happy with the food. It ended up being $33 for breakfast, which is actually less than IHOP and gave us way more food.
We took advantage of the free Downtown Trax route and caught a train right by our hotel.
We got off at The Temple Square stop so we could go to the Family History Library. I took this picture of Assembly Hall (a building I love) from the corner and was quite pleased. Have I mentioned that I love tulip season?!
We went to the Family History Library for the first time and felt the Spirit immediately. I was choked up before we'd even made it into the 9 minute orientation video room. There are senior missionaries serving all over the place and they are touchingly nice! They gave us pencils and family history sheets.
We spent about an hour on the computers looking up various family members and doing some indexing. I still don't understand it very much, but think this outing sparked an interested that needs to be pursued by myself. We also went to the 3rd floor to deliver some candy and socks to a missionary serving from our ward, but he wasn't there. We left the bag with a note on it but were bummed to have missed him.
We walked next door to the Church History Museum and wandered for awhile. There's some amazing stuff in there, but of course it was a touch too warm and the floors seems a little loose to me so I actually felt a little seasick (weird).
By the time we got out of there we were all hungry and at the point of meltdown...Randy accidentally stepped on Whitney's foot as she was pouting herself away from him and ended up falling on her butt. It was quite the seen! As this lovely domestic incident was happening a street person (there are way too many of them downtown) approached me for money for a "bus ticket". I gave him $3 and had him sign a disclosure document about the family issues he'd witnessed, ha.
Of course, we followed up our family friction with a walk around the grounds of the temple. I wasn't feeling very "families can be together forever" but the grounds were beautiful.
We finally staggered across the street to Hagermann's for a very tasty lunch and to have our sense of well-being restored.
Of course, Whitney did not like the plain roast beef sandwich she ordered ($6) so she only ate chips, a cookie and soda. Good Hell!
After lunch the sun came out again both literally and figuratively. We went to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building to see the movie about Joseph Smith. It was very well done and quite spiritual, so we all came out of there in good form and wandered the temple grounds some more.
Next up was a tour of the Beehive House (can you believe we've never done any of these things before?!).
It was cool to see all that historical furniture and clothing, especially this wedding dress that one of Brigham Young's daughters wore...I was that size never! It was seriously tiny, like a size -1 petite!
Afterward we admired the flowers and Whitney pointed out that they appeared to be on steroids.
Upon walking across the street back to City Creek we were passed by Jeffrey R. Holland! I was excited just to have him walk by, but when he was stopped by some people to shake hands we had Landon run over too.
After checking out a few of the shops we caught Trax again and decided to ride it around the rest of the loop to see the city.
This was pretty cool until it stopped in a ghetto-ish part of town and announced it was the "end of the line!" Yikes! We thought perhaps we'd made a huge mistake until I found an employee who informed us we could get back on and it would back the other way in a few minutes...phew! I had visions of trekking across town all night.
Instead we went back to the hotel to swim. It was early evening so we only had another hour of sunlight left and it felt so good lounging on that chair reading. I only got about 4 pages read before the guilt got to me and I joined the family in the pool. We played tag with a kid named Brandon until 9:00. I also sustained a pretty painful raised bruise on my left knee from accidentally slamming it into a protruding underwater filter thing. It hurt terribly then and is painful and ugly now...good times.
Back at the room Landon kicked back with some NBA basketball while Randy went to pick up dinner and Whitney and I got cleaned up from the pool.
We got Rusted Sun Pizza and confirmed what Adam is always telling us...that we're living like animals with no good pizza where we live in the UC (Utah County). This was seriously fantastic pizza, something we'll dream about and yearn for in the future. Ahhh.
The good news is we all slept better the 2nd night and had none of the hilarious banter we'd had the night before. This time we knew what to expect and we were exhausted.

This was a fun first-time experience for the kids, and reminded me of riding the Metro in Paris (but different).
