I was so energized last night that I couldn't sleep until 2:00am $%#@!, how frustrating. That threw me off for this morning so I ended up sleeping until 9:00am rather than getting up early, going for a walk and having the morning home to myself. I know it's a luxury to be able to sleep in, but it's also a pisser to lose the morning (especially when that morning is kid-free), it's a Catch-22 really. (I always feel slightly panicked when I'm kid-free, like I really want to make the time count but can't decide the best way to do so.)

My partner and I (who is also my Activity Day co-leader and also my primary teaching partner) went visiting teaching from 10-11:30 and actually saw all 3 of the women we visit teach (it's so rare to see all 3 at once). Hooray! We had good visits with all of them and are done before the half-way point of the month, this makes me very happy because it's important to me that I do my visiting teaching and it weighs heavily on me if we don't do it (like last month) so to actually get it all done in one morning early in the month makes me ecstatic.

I then took myself to the movies to see Ocean's 13. There were only about 6 other people at the 12:30pm showing so it was pretty quiet in the theater, I was often the only person laughing. My sister Lori said she was the only one laughing when she saw it last week as well, what's up with that? It was enjoyable.

I then went to Target for a half hour, then picked up a pork salad from Cafe Rio and went home to eat it in the air-conditioned quiet of the family room with my feet propped up on the ottoman while watching a design show I'd recorded. It was so nice to eat that meal uninterrupted and while watching one of my shows for a change.

After that I just had to go lie on my bed and read for a bit. I managed about 10 pages of Charms For The Easy Life before I fell asleep. Delicious. I got about an hour nap before I had to leave for tonight's Enrichment Activity. It was at our RS President's house in her gorgeous yard. It was paradise. She has lived there for like 40 years so she has huge trees, great landscaping, a small pond/waterfall and gorgeous flowers, I would love to live somewhere like that. I would want to spend all my time out there reading and writing. Poor thing, she's so busy she hardly gets to go out there! If only I could create something like that even on a very small scale I'd be happy. (A girl can dream can't she?)
I have more to say about the visiting teaching message, one of the girls we visit, the promise of a free day, the joy of planning and sending good mail, how freakin hot it was today, the lovely Rudbeckia blooming in my yard, my lack of vacuuming (gasp), but this will have to suffice.
**Would you be torn between sleeping in
or having your morning alone?
Do you like to go to movies by yourself?
Are napping/reading appealing to you?
Any other thoughts?**

I am always happy for a nap. One of my very favorite treats. I seldom feel torn b/w a nap and getting things done when the girls are away. Is that bad? :)
Oh and I adore watching tv, my own shows, in the middle of the day b/c it seems like such a luxury. I say "live it up"
I want to see O-13 and love a non-crowded theatre.
Hope you enjoy your day tomorrow. You deserve a little time off...
I would have been just as torn. I LOVE to get up early and get things done, but since I never get to sleep in I would also love a lazy morning with no little voices telling me they are hungry! Tough choice for sure!
I have NEVER been to a movie alone in my whole life and I am not sure if I would enjoy it. Something to think about.
I am glad you enjoyed your free day. Target, cafe Rio, reading and a nap sound HEAVENLY (and I am usually not a napper, but it sure sounds good right now!)
what an awesome day! i know that feeling of wondering what to do and the sense of panic that you're not going to get everything you want to get done...done. so sad you didn't get as much sleep as you wanted! i hate that feeling!
i really want to see ocean's 13. there are a few movies out i'd like to see- and i like going by myself.
you are making me jealous! a cafe rio pork salad! seriously, you are killing me!
Your day sounded absolutely divine. I think you spent it very wisely. I would be torn with sleeping in too though sleep would probably win out. I think you did well.
That name Rucbeckia is totally intriguing me b/c I've never heard of it. I like to know the names of plants/flowers/trees, so post a picture!!
Which design show do you like? For some reason I have a thing for Designed to Sell. I guess I love how well they do the transformations and seeing not only clutter disappear but lots of beauty and color added.
I'm so happy you got alone time after 9 KIDS YESTERDAY?!! Holy cow. Your day sounded great. I'm a big fan of movies alone, but honestly can't remember the last time that actually happened. BYU International Cinema???... Sleeping in is as good as any alone time.
wow missy jill it sounds like heaven...i would have loved to accompany you to lunch and the movies but napping...i guess if i am too tired i would....but yeah i love to go to the movies with or without....it is fantastic to be able to be transported into other lives/places...you look wonderful by the way.
Sleeping in is a catch-22 for me as well. I never get to right now, so it sounds so divine. But so does starting the day off productively and getting the most time in kid-free.
I haven't been to a movie alone in a long time. Probably since my 22nd birthday- so almost 4 years ago :( It is so nice.
Love reading myself into a nap. That my friend is bliss. As well as a meal alone- I still need to go to Cafe Rio sometime- where is the closest one to us?
So glad to hear you had a refreshing day sans kiddos. What a treat! I love to catch a movie just by myself and totally escape...of course I think it's been years since I've done that.
Don't fret about sleeping later and not getting stuff done--it's A-OK. How wonderful to read in the quiet afternoon AND then nap--can you feel my jealousy? Ha! ;)
I always feel a little panicked whenever I have kid-free time. What to do? What to do? Pretty soon it's over... duh. Sounds like you made pretty good use of it! I can't believe you did 3 visits in 1 1/2 hours! We quite often spend that long at one place. I loooooved Charms for the Easy Life, so I'll be interested to know how you like it. I succumb to napping whenever possible!
p.s. 9 kids?? Yikes.
I can relate to sleeping in/and getting things done. Half the time when I have the opportunity I don't sleep in because I feel like I could be doing a ton of things.
Oceans 13 and a Cafe Rio pork salad sounds like a great day in itself!
I am always torn when alone and usually end up 'wasting' the time.
I have never been to a movie alone. (I will have to remember that when we are playing one of those dumb, "I never" games.)
Are you kid free again today? I am glad you had such a great day alone.
I've gone to some movies alone and have enjoyed it very much. It's better than sitting through a film you're really interested in and listening to the person with you complain the whole time!
I feel torn about relaxation vs. active enjoyment all the time, especially on the weekends. I start panicking because I've finally got a day 'all to myself' I feel like I should use it to clean or do some fun project, when what I really want to do is just veg. Now I clean on Saturday and then veg out on Sunday.
Just love days like that. I am dying to Ocean's 13, my fav is the first though, I could watch that every week and not get bored. As far as seeing a movie by myself, done it and love. Your not there to talk anyway your there to watch - plus you get all the snacks your yourself.
I have been trying with no luck to find a babysitter, would love to have some time by myself that isn't at 11:00 at night.
Your day sounds divine! I absolutely love to read in bed & slip into sleep without knowing it.
(James has to take the book out of my hands,as I'm still holding it perfectly);)
I have never seen a movie by myself, but am not opposed to it.
I woke up way early this a.m. then went back to sleep for some catch up beauty rest!haha (no snoozing at the cabin!)kids were playing games together when I got up, but hubs was home too. ciao
I think I want quiet alone time and after about 15 minutes, I am lonely and want my littles all around me. I get less done, but I'm happier when they are around. The only exception is the scrapbook store. I'll bring the baby, but I don't want Carter and Aimee tearing around while I am trying to find the perfect paper for a page.
I have never been to a movie alone. I'm not sure I could do it. I like having someone to laugh with and a hand to hold at the scary parts.
There is never any delimma. Sleeping in wins everytime. I've got all day to get my work done, and only a little precious time to sleep in.
**Would you be torn between sleeping in
or having your morning alone? i ALWAYS pick sleeping in..my priorities are ALL messed up!!
Do you like to go to movies by yourself? TOTALLY!
Are napping/reading appealing to you? OH YA!
Any other thoughts?**i WISH we had a cafe rio here!! im so jealous!
It sounds like you spent your day alone wisely. The salad and the design show sounds perfect. It has been way to long since I did that.
How exactly did you manage to have an entire day alone!?
Every day, I think I am going to get up early and get lots done. Every day, I sleep well past the alarm. Getting up early is one of my resolutions for the year. I am failing miserably.
I relate to your panic kid-free time - I can never seem to settle on the one activity that will make it all feel worth it.
I'm always torn between sleeping in or having a morning to myself! It is a rare thing that I don't wake up to my little one wanting something or other, that usually I sleep in, and then I'm unhappy that I didn't get up with a quiet house, especially if it's clean. (Wow, that was long!) I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, to go to the movies by myself! I do it as often as I can, usually once a week if I have something to go see! It gives me an out from the hustle of kids. Fun! One more year and I will have the house to myself again and I won't be watching cartoons all day long. Yahoo!
Ooooh, can I escape into your day! Sounds perfectly wonderful!
I love going to the movies in any situation- alone, crazy theater, empty theater, whatever!
And I have not had a nap in like two years.
I'm always torn when I get time by myself at how to spend it most productively. Sleeping in after being up till 2 is a most productive use of time in my book.
jil what a wonderful pleasurable post to read. it was like a good book chapter
i dont' really enjoy movies but think i do more by myself. i tend to want to leave most movies so being there by myself I can just get up and go and not worry that the other person will want to stay. i am so openly freaky about movies!
i do want to see O13 though.
i have never eaten at Cafe Rio.
you are just an awesome Aunt for watching the girls and giving them such a safe place to be while their parents are away!
I totally feel torn when I have that kind of time alone. I choose something different every time. This Tuesday will be my last day home alone till school starts again, and I'm working on a strategy. It sounds like you found a good balance of activities to fill your day.
I LOVED 'Charms of an Easy Life'...(actually I loved all of Kaye Gibbons' books)...she is a wonderful writer! Have you read any of her other books? I hope you post about Charms -- it would be fun to see what you think...
oh, naps are VERY good too...
I am soooo jelous of your kid free day. I REALLY need one right now. Your day sounded just fabulous. I would have slept in also. Sleep is so precious that is would have been a no brainer for me.
I have only been to one movie alone. I was really mad at Jason and we got into a fight. I wanted him to worry about me so I went to see Never Been Kissed and laughed the whole way through. My plan worked and all was well.
Given the choice, sleeping in usually wins, though I often regret it. And yes, when I am home alone I tend to spin in circles not knowing what to do first. It wastes a lot of time. I like Barb's idea of planning it out, but you seemed to do great! Napping and reading -- aaah!
What - no Fri post and now Sat is halfway over and still no Sat post? You have spoiled us and I've come to expect a daily post! I will have withdrawls soon!
