12 on the 12th--September Edition

12 on the 12th--February Edition

12 on the 12th--February Edition

I was super sick for 5 days in February, including the 12th, so this is the do-over I did on February 26th. Both days were Fridays and Michelle and I had originally planned to go to the temple open house on the 12th so this was a pretty close representation of how the 12th would have been.

1. Landon slept on the couch all week because he had a sprained ankle and couldn't climb up onto his loft bed.

3. I have a Morning Motivation playlist of inspirational videos that I listen to while I get ready in the mornings.

5. Randy is unemployed so he has lots of time for reading.

12 on the 12th--February Edition

1. Landon texted me from his bed at 6:03am to get out of school for the day (a rare occurrence).
2. Pulling up at the junior high for work after having 5 days off.
3. Whitney stopped by before class started and didn't cooperate for the photo.
4. One of the ladies brought Smart Cookies to share...amazingly delicious.
5. I'm in charge of ordering all the school supplies and they get delivered on Wednesdays.
6. I came home to find Landon face down asleep on the couch.
7. I read over the RS lesson I will be teaching this Sunday while finishing my Zupa's lunch (which I was too busy at work to eat).
8. Jill B. and I went visiting teaching, we have a good time together.
9. Landon got tackled in the snow while sledding and got his face scrapped up so now he has a Chaplin-style scab on his face.
10. Whitney had to conduct an experiment for science and we were her lab rats.
11. We watched the Olympics--the Women's Half Pipe finals.
12. I am officially half way through my ginormous book.

Miscellaneous Monday

Over the MLK weekend I cleaned out our pantry, this is one side of the finished product. It took a long time and meant throwing away A LOT of canned good (the oldest having expired in 2005). We have a can rotation issue that I'm hoping will be remedied now that everything is current. Good grief!

I also cleaned of the desk in my room and dusted this tray Claudia gave me awhile ago which houses my necklace chains and pendants; so pleasing.

While cleaning I unearthed this frightening find from 1994!

These are the supplies I carry with me to Michelle's every week for Creative Friday. I usually have them dumped into 2 or 3 different bags and it drives me crazy, so I emptied the bags out onto my bed so I could weed out and organize everything.

This is the finished stash! It all fits into one large bag and is divided up into Ziploc bags so I can find things!

Whitney joined me for to eat lunch in the car one day last week, that was a first.

One of our new office aides (a great, 9th grade boy) showed me his phone cover, I was impressed.

I tried to help Whitney with her math homework and it nearly did us both in. I have since hired Landon to be her official tutor (for $5 an hour with the expectation of finished assignments and good test scores).

I also found that most of Whitney's math assignments are covered with drawings like this, so it's no wonder she may be missing quite a bit of class instruction. I was telling Randy about this and sharing my desire to have her hands tied to her desk so she couldn't draw but he said she was just draw in her head (like he used to as a kid)!

Landon has been playing Rec. basketball on a losing team, but they finally one a game (by one basket)! 

I made cookies on Friday (since Michelle was too sick for me to come over) and ended up taking her family a plate of them, putting a bag of them in the freezer along with 2 logs of dough for future use.

On Saturday I went to the annual Stake Relief Society Women's Conference with my visiting teaching companion Jill B. We have become good friends over this past year or so of teaching together and I am so happy about that.

Sunday Thoughts

It turns out that 9:00am church is much more conducive to me writing Sunday Thoughts posts than either 11:30 or 2:00 church, just in case you're wondering why I'm suddenly posting on Sundays again.

My partner Jill and I went Visiting Teaching again this week and though I was giving the same lesson I'd just given 3 days earlier it ended up being different than I'd planned (I love it when that happens). I like to go with the flow of the conversation and see where things go (while still sharing from the message)  and this time was pretty cool because we ended up talking about the strength we feel just from being members of the church. I haven't ever articulated it before, but as we were discussing the message about being more Christlike and having the Atonement written on our hearts I ended up saying that I know I could call on the women of the ward (or the entire ward really) and have them mobilize to help me and my family as needed and at very short notice. Though I have never had to do this, it is hugely comforting knowing that I can; and also cool to know that I am on standby to help hundreds of other people in my ward family as needed. It's something to think about it and be grateful for.

12 on the 12th--January Edition

1. I was up early to get ready for church and to do some last minute adjustments on the chair set up instructions.
2. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Primary singing time!
3. These are the pencils we're giving the primary kids on their birthdays this year.
4. Family hang out time on our bed after church.
5. Visiting teaching with my partner Jill B., I knew she'd have cozy boots on.
6. Landon doing homework next to Whitney's Lego set up.
7. Dinner rolls rising.
8. I spent an hour in the cozy reading and dozing.
9. I got a thank you note delivery while we were eating dinner, very sweet.
10. Post dinner wrestling.
11. Brownies and ice cream while we watched Psych together.
12. Downton Abbey for me and Randy is a great way to end the day.

Week in Review--Phone Style

 I love listening to podcasts when I work in the yard.

We had the most perfect day of weather on Tuesday.

 I do A LOT of updating records and printing for primary.

Whitney and I saw a stunning sunrise on the way to school.

A trip to Costco to stock up on some essentials since Adam and Amy's girls are coming to stay for the weekend.

We froze our nards off at Landon's game on Thursday.

 

I passed a pumpkin patch and saw this pumpkin on a chair so I flipped a U-turn so I could take a picture of it.

 I saw these too.

One of my visiting teachers felt badly that they hadn't been able to come see me this month so she printed a message and brought me a cinnamon braid, she even delivered it to me at school!

I had a delightfully rainy car lunch on Friday. (I don't usually work on Fridays but one of the other secretaries needed to switch this week.)

I took this self-portrait at a red light on the way home. It was a pretty funny car ride with all of us (except Andrew) singing "Roar" by Katy Perry.

My mom gave Lori and I a little sewing lesson...Lori and I have no skills.

I enjoy fabric, and like the idea of sewing. But even this very basic project has me flustered.

We set our sewing aside to take the girls to the AFHS Fall Festival and we finally got to try the goodness of the Waffle Luv truck.

Bella and Tess braved the Sumo suits and provided some comedy.

12 on the 12th--September Edition

1. I forgot to remind Amie about 12 on the 12th last month so I did it first thing in the morning...but I woke her up!
2. We don't have a vent/fan in our bathroom so the mirror always gets fogged up and overheated, it's the bane of my existence.
3. Towel head.
4. Family scripture reading, we're in Alma 5.

6. A student who often visits me in the office gave me a Rice Krispie Treat for "being a good person" (her words).
7. It was Landon's first home football game!

Shmalentine Rewind

This is the Valentine box Whitney and Randy came up with this year (Whitney's idea). I think it is super clever!

My day at work was festive, Wendy made these gorgeous chocolate-covered strawberries (check out those stems) for the office staff.

We receive a bunch of deliveries for students and had to keep them in the office until after school. I thought this multicolored rose was heinous! What a terrible thing to do to a rose!

I cut out some pink hearts and taped them to the inside of Landon's locker and included a bag of Dove chocolate hearts for him, I'm bummed that I didn't take a picture.

My blogging friend Jenny's daughter delivered a morning-mix cd and a Ghiradelli chocolate bar! That was such a nice surprise. My desk drawer looked like a treat haven and cry for help. Ha. I love sugar cookies.

 Randy brought Wendy and I a Cafe Rio burrito to split for lunch.

He also brought all the gift-wrapping supplies needed to wrap a bridal shower gift I had for a co-worker AND he spent 25 minutes wrapping it perfectly for us (Wendy and I went in on it). I considered this a true Valentine's gift!

 I came home to my favorite truffles and a gift certificate for a pedicure. Those have become Randy's go-to gift for me but I'm okay with that.

My visiting teacher had dropped off this perfect-looking, homemade sugar cookie and note. She's always doing cute things.

I'm happy to report that I was in excellent form for this year's holiday and experienced no issues whatsoever. What a relief. I'm starting to view Valentine's Day as a treat fest to enjoy.

Comment Window Tidbit: I was irritated by the first episode of Survivor that I don't think I can watch it anymore. It seemed more like some cheesy Seduction Island type show. TV has just gotten gross, I may have to give it up all together.
