Football Season--Official Game #1

Friday, September 11th, was the first official home game of the season.

I love it how the team runs out onto the field before the game.

Landon played defense again this game and didn't get to play as much as he would have liked.

You gotta hydrate.

Down to business.

Westlake was winning for most of the game so it was a wee bit stressful for us fans, but miraculously the Cavemen pulled it out in the end.

After the games (win or lose) the team always comes over and sings the school fight song to the student section.

The team all wore patriotic decals on their helmets for September 11th (and the middle of the field was painted to match this A).

My mom joined us for this game.

Birthday Outings

Even though we had a family dinner scheduled on Monday for my mom's birthday, Lori and I decided to take her out on Saturday on her actual birthday (June 21st).

Andrew was home for the weekend so it was a bonus to get to see him. Of course he was all sorts of chatty (not), but he is actually smiling in this picture so that's something.

We went to see "Words and Pictures" because it's a chick flick and something my dad would never agree to see. We liked it!

We went to Bucca di Beppo for a super tasty, late lunch.

Our self-portrait.

On Monday evening we met everyone at Goodwood for dinner (Robyn's boyfriend Lyman brought the flowers for my mom).

She also got a new tv for her workout space in the basement (which was a big surprise).

And a bunch of workout videos...I soooo don't want these for my birthday!

Landon had football practice and Randy was on a campout for the week so it was just Whitney and I representing for the family; plus she was staying with Adam and Amy for a few days so she arrived and left with them. Weird.

Mother's Day Weekend

On Saturday evening we gathered at Lori's house (hence JoJo is in this picture) to celebrate with our mom.

We had shredded pork sandwiches, fruit, salad, chips and queso and Carmelitas for dessert.

Landon did homework upstairs and Whitney and the Maher girls played a game downstairs (Robyn's kids weren't there).

Robyn and her boyfriend came a little late, but her kids were with Jared.

Adam and Amy's girls all made cards for my mom, which was mighty sweet.

My mom cried when she opened the card I made for her (victory is mine).

Here's a better look.

After church on Sunday we braved the cold wind to take our traditional Mother's Day photos. Landon had already changed out of his church clothes so I had him put his shirt and tie back on, and I put on flip flops (I didn't wear those to church).

It is super difficult to get any sort of decent photo because of all the silliness involved.

More weirdness.

Can you see that Whitney is pretending to lick me, ew.

Pretty much we end up with a shot like this.

Landon grabbed my phone and took a bunch of pictures of the two of us, this is my best angle.

Things came to a screeching halt when we went inside and Whitney had me read this poem she wrote for me out loud. I know she was going for funny, but it pretty much crushed my soul. I ended up crying for a little while and then took a long nap. I'm not a fan of Mother's Day because there's just too much emotion going on for me.

Landon made me this Jimmy Fallon-theme card and wrote a bunch of thank yous to be read like Jimmy reads his thank you notes on the show.

Miscellaneous Monday--Phone Photos

Landon has such a hard time smiling like a normal person in photos.

I found this funny message from Whitney waiting for me when I changed the roll of tp one morning.

My last two Secret Pals have been pretty lame, but we got new assignments last week and it looks like this time around I have a good one.

Whitney is supposed to read a book each month for her English Class but is not very keen on that assignment. Last week she needed to have her 215 page book finished by Thursday, but was only on page 67 on Monday. I tried my best to help motivate her, but she put up a lot of resistance...it was maddening for me.

I met my mom for lunch at a new place in AF called Wild Zucchini. I had a steak wrap with all kinds of tasty things inside it and she had a steak salad.

Our parking lot self-portrait.

I finally washed my car after about 6 weeks of filth, it was delightful and stayed clean for 24 hours before the next rain/snow fell.

This is a screenshot of an Instagram post I did of Whitney's nonreading activities...she is the queen of stalling!

When I pulled into the driveway from work on Thursday I actually said a prayer because I feared I would be fighting her all evening to finish her book. Miraculously though, when I entered the house she was sitting on the couch reading and only had 20 pages left! She ended up finishing the book before dinner. I was elated, thrilled, flabbergasted, delighted, tickled and euphoric!

I didn't go to Michelle's house on Friday because she is sick with bronchitis, so I ran errands instead. I hadn't been to Costco since before Christmas, so I had to pay to renew our membership (never fun) and stock up on a bunch of stuff...ouch!

I experienced a bit of a time warp when I saw this car on my way home...oh the 70's were so ugly!

Landon has been taking practice tests online so he can get ready for his Learner's Permit, so I decided to take one too and failed twice! I've been driving for 26 years, but can't remember how many feet away from train tracks I must be and so on. It was embarrassing.

We are finally having Landon's Eagle Court of Honor next Sunday (along with two other boys from the ward) so I had to go to the Scout Store to buy the Eagle Kit ($30, plus $15 for the bandana and $8 for two extra mentor pins). I am hoping that's the last time I will ever have to go there!!

Miscellany from November

Here are some miscellaneous moments from November...

Sometimes on our gmail at work people will put a little message, I had this message just before my trip, but I took this picture because of Marci's message about the Fall playlist cd I gave her since I'm her Secret Pal--apparently she liked it!

Oh Whitney, why must she torture me so?!

My co-worker Angie gave me a bag full of goodies for my trip. It was so unexpected so nice of her to do this, I wore the sunglasses the entire trip!

My mom brought Kneaders for a car lunch the day before I left for California...it was my first car lunch of the year since I only work 3 days a week now there isn't as much need (though I still enjoy them).

Michelle texted me while I was in the car with my mom saying she was bringing me cookies! I felt so spoiled as I had my mom leaving and Michelle arriving...spoiled!

Michelle made these tasty sugar cookies for Cookie Monday (which she posts on Instagram every Monday) and I had commented that I almost showed up at her house to taste them, so she kindly delivered them to me at work!

I came home from work that day to find that Michelle had delivered my wreath! I had been working on it but felt stumped about how to attach the "S" and the bow so she and her mom tweaked it for me (which was the most important part).

One of our office aides put this note on my computer, this is funny for two reasons 1. She is NOT my favorite at all 2. I think the word "totes" is pretty funny.

My Secret Pal this time around hasn't been very into it but did give me these goodies after I sent a reminder email to the whole group.

I got a nice thank you note from Amie, oh how I love good mail and miss its frequency.

Amie and I went to the wedding reception of our friend Lisa's son. He was in the first primary class I ever taught 11 years ago! I loved that primary class so much I had them for 2 years. It was surreal to see him as a married man.

Our old oven broke so our landlords got us this one. It's very nice but looks a tad modern for our old house!

This is the only lipstick I've ever had that will actually stay on all day, and is a color I like. I usually have a back up stash but ran out of it last week and started to panic when I couldn't find it at 2 different Wal-Marts (nothing but the best for me). I ended up getting the last two our local Walgreens had which leads me to believe that Cover Girl might be discontinuing my color. Oh the humanity!!

Since Michelle and I didn't get together the Friday I was in California and weren't going to be able the Friday after Thanksgiving we opted for a Cafe Rio car lunch.
